Hello Fellow Students

In my ongoing efforts to experiment on my body and brain so you don’t have to I recently decided to go on a raw vegan diet for 7 days. Just like my College Superman Breakfast and my Superman Dinner experiments.  It was both an amazing and difficult experience. For those that know me, I’m no vegetarian, however I got some really interesting results from this little experiment which I think will really help both students and non-students alike.

My Raw Food Diet Quick Results

  • Loss of 3 pounds
  • Massive increase in energy
  • No significant loss in muscle strength (I performed a pre/post muscle tension test and discovered only a slight loss in overall strength)
  • Smoother skin
  • Calmer attitude (whether this was mental or not I’m not sure, but I felt less violent overall, if anyone else has done this and had the same thing happen to them please explain it in the comments section)

Study Break: My favorite Youtube Video Channels

November 27, 2009

Hello fellow students, another Friday, another study break! Here is a classic study break for most of you, my favorite youtube video channels. I’ve been working on this for the past 3 years (if wasting time watching youtube video’s can be considered research). So without further ado, check out some of my personal favorites.

Shaytards: This guy runs a video every day about his kids, wife, job and beard. It is truly better than television.

TedTalks: One of the absolute best conferences during the year and all their lectures are free for anyone to download. The talks are also really easy to understand and very well done. I really suggest you add this channel to your youtube account if you want to be both entertained and interested.

Current: A great channel that throws up a ton of professional content on social responsibility, the environment and innovation. They always have one or two video’s up a day so you’ll have plenty of content to choose from.

Drunk History: Probably the funniest video’s on Youtube. The channel was set up by Jack Black and Micheal Sara. Trust me, get some ppl together and watch these video’s tonight. After you’re finished come back here and thank me in the comments.

Study Break: How To properly Pour A Beer

A great example of a British Pour

A great example of a British Pour

Hello fellow students, another Friday, another study break! This week, I’d like to talk about something most college students don’t know the first thing about but really should, how to properly pour a beer. I’ve included a link here that will provide you with all the details on the proper pour, however, if you’d like a simple three step guide, keep reading.

Step 1: Choose Your Beer

Here is a quick and dirty guide, light beers should be served as cold as humanly possible as the cold numbs your taste buds and lets you perceive the flavour of the beers, drinking warm light beer pretty much the same as drinking warm piss so keep them cold. Kraft beers can be drank and cooler temperatures and are at the most opportune temperature for consumption 15-30 minutes after they have been taken out of the fridge.

Study Break Time!

Study Break Time!

Hello fellow students, another Friday, another study break! This site has been a guilty pleasure for years! To the point where I’ve cut this site off through leechblock, save for the weekends. Newgrounds is a website where you can find thousands of great little flash games absolutely free!

Here are a few of my personal favorites:

Dad game: A hilarious game about a lovable little character that turns mentally insane and goes on a killing rampage, enjoy!

Portal Defenders: GREAT game from the guys who came up with the Newgrounds site. Old school button masher that will make you laugh and isn’t too long so you don’t become addicted.

Air Defense 3: Probably the greatest ‘defense’ game of all time, you blow a ton of stuff up and get great upgrades. After about 10 minutes it really starts to become epic.

Check out the other games they have as well and DON’T become addicted. But if you do become addicted, you should probably check out a free chapter of 30 Minutes A Day To A 4.0 GPA so you can manage your addictions and school at the same time. You can get a free chapter by checking out my study tips page.

Study Break: Introduction

November 6, 2009
Study Break Time!

Study Break Time!

So I was sitting down with a student last week and he’d been having some difficulty with achieving his version of academic success. This guy was stressed, and I mean really stressed. He said he’d been having stomach pains and had been grinding his teeth due to the stress he’d been having trying to get his last course up to an A average. So, as I always do I started doing a study audit, going through all the stuff he’d been doing and this guy was doing everything I’d been teaching him. He had an excellent study schedule, had accountability backups, kept his social space and study space separate etc. I came to the realization that this guy’s problem wasn’t studying enough it was studying too much. So I started asking him, “when was the last time you put everything away and just did nothing all day.” He had a unimpressed blank look on his face and I realized at that point that this guy was taking school way to seriously. So with that in mind I decided to help him out with his problem by ordering him to go out Friday night and not come back until he was either properly inebriated or stress free, whichever comes first.

How I Relearned French: Or How To Learn a Second Language In 5 Steps

November 2, 2009
The National Flag of Quebec

The National Flag of Quebec

In Canada “where I’m from” we have two official languages, French and English which was formally instituted into our national charter in 1982. This came into being to give the Quebecois people official language status and quell the rebellion of the Quebecois people which climaxed during the ‘October Crisis’ where Quebec was placed under martial law due to increased terrorist/freedom fighter activity. As a result almost all governmental positions within the country require that the employee learn both French and English and almost all citizens have a basic understanding of French and many are considered fully bilingual.
I’m talking about this to show you the context in which I’m coming from. Since I’m currently living in Montreal, most people speak French instead of English and I’ve grown up with both languages all my life. Everyone that I talk to can speak at least two languages and it isn’t rare to meet people who can speak three, four or even five languages which I find isn’t the case when I travel to the U.S. I recently had to take a government French exam to do some contract work and thought I would go through my sure fire, 5 step plan for learning a second language.

Here are some of the big changes we’ve made to the second edition.

We’ve added a full video course with me ‘Liam McIvor Martin’ and Scott H Young where I ask Scott the questions everyone has wanted to ask him since LMSL 1st edition came out. He explains all his concepts from LMSL 1st edition and expands on some new concepts that will really revolutionize your learning style.

How to stop scarring when you get a facial burn

October 4, 2009

So as some of you may know I got horribly burned by hot oil about a week and a half ago. This gave me the opportunity to experiment with various salves and anti-scaring techniques.  So the following video diary is the steps that I took to solve my burn and the resulting successes and failures from my various techniques. Instead of taking the regular route of apply a cold compress and polysporin I instead decided to integrate vitamin E and pineapple which I was told worked wonders on repairing burns and suppressing scarring.

Step 1: Immediately applied a cold compress to the effected area for approximately 15-20 minutes

Step 2: Applied pineapple to the effected area’s 2-3 hours after burn.  I also applied polysporin to seal the skin.

Step 3: At night I applied a thin layer of vitamin E cream to the effected areas to help with skin regeneration.

Results:

As the video will show, my face has completely healed whereas my arm is still seriously burned. Now facial skin is different from the skin on your arms, however from my experimentation I highly suggest the pineapple as a treatment.

I Got Horribly Burned!

October 4, 2009
I got burned!

I got burned!

Sorry I haven’t been posting lately as I had some big problems that popped up recently, chief of which is my bad ass oil burn.  Take note, a hot skillet + olive oil + little sleep + throwing steaks onto said skillet = one burnt face.  This did however give me an opportunity to study skin burns and how to suppress scarring.  I’ll be posting a video diary of what I’ve been doing and how my burns have been coming along very soon.

Problem number two is that I’ve been very VERY busy with a new collection of products that have been coming out and a significant influx of students that have registered towards the end of September.  I haven’t forgotten about all of you so I will try to get back into a steady posting schedule within the next few days.

If you’d like to help me pay my bills go check out my online tutoring program as we’ve done a retrofit of the site and are offering even more tutoring options.
